Mounjaro is a once-weekly weight loss injection. At Crighton Pharmacy, it starts with a private consultation, where we check your BMI, your health and your medicines before deciding if Mounjaro is suitable.
How Mounjaro works
The active ingredient is tirzepatide. It acts on 2 gut hormone receptors, called GLP-1 and GIP, which help control appetite and blood sugar. As a result, you tend to feel fuller for longer after eating, and smaller portions feel more satisfying.
Is it right for you?
- You may be suitable with a BMI of 30 or more
- Or with a BMI of 27 or more plus a weight-related health condition
- It is not suitable for everyone, so the pharmacist checks your medical history first
Using the weekly pen
Each pen contains 4 weekly doses. You choose one day a week and inject under the skin of your tummy, thigh or upper arm. We show you how to use the pen at your first appointment, and the leaflet in the box explains each step too.
Dose steps
Everyone starts on 2.5mg for 4 weeks. After that, the dose can rise in 2.5mg steps every 4 weeks, up to 15mg, depending on how you respond. Many people stay on a lower dose if it is working well.
- Missed a dose? Take it within 4 days. If more than 4 days have passed, skip it and carry on as normal
- You can change your injection day, as long as there are at least 3 days between doses
